Common Questions About Therapy
How do I know which type of therapy is right for me?
It depends on what you're experiencing. For anxious thoughts and negative thinking patterns, CBT is often a great fit. If you've been through a traumatic experience, EMDR or trauma-focused therapy may help you process it more effectively. During your first session, your therapist will talk through what you're dealing with and recommend an approach that makes sense for you. Many of our clients benefit from a combination of techniques.
What's the difference between a therapist, a counselor, and a psychologist?
In Florida, Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs), and Licensed Psychologists all provide talk therapy. The main differences are in their training and scope. Psychologists complete doctoral-level training and can administer psychological testing. Our team includes licensed professionals across these disciplines, so we can match you with the right level of care.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes. We have bilingual therapists on staff who provide therapy in both Spanish and English. Being able to express yourself in your first language can make a meaningful difference in therapy, and we want that option available to anyone who needs it.
How long does therapy typically take?
There's no fixed timeline — it depends on what you're working through. Some clients see progress in 8 to 12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll check in regularly on how you're feeling and adjust as needed. You're never locked into a set number of sessions.
Can I do therapy online instead of coming to the office?
Yes. We offer telehealth appointments for anyone located in the state of Florida. Video sessions are just as effective for most concerns, and many of our clients prefer the flexibility of meeting from home or their office.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare Part B, United Healthcare, and Care Partners through Lee Health. If you're unsure whether your plan covers therapy with us, call our office at (239) 427-1833 and we'll check for you.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
Your first session is about getting to know each other. Your therapist will ask about what brought you in, your background, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. It's a conversation, not an evaluation — there's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with. By the end, you'll have a sense of whether it feels like a good fit.
Do you work with children and teenagers?
Yes. Several of our therapists specialize in working with children and adolescents, using age-appropriate approaches like play therapy, sand tray therapy, art therapy, and adapted CBT. We offer dedicated play therapy for children ages 3-12 and work with kids and teens on anxiety, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, family transitions, and more.
