Online Therapy & Virtual Counseling in Florida

Licensed therapists providing online therapy from the comfort of your home — anywhere in Florida. The same compassionate, evidence-based care through secure video sessions. No commute, no waiting room.

Why Clients Choose Virtual Therapy From Home

More and more of our clients are choosing telehealth — not as a fallback, but as their preferred way to do therapy. And it makes sense. You can attend a session from your living room, your car on lunch break, or wherever you feel most comfortable being open and honest.

For people dealing with anxiety, depression, or trauma, the idea of driving somewhere, sitting in a waiting room, and walking into an unfamiliar office can feel like its own obstacle. Telehealth removes that barrier entirely. You just click a link, and your therapist is there.

Parents juggling school pickups and work schedules, professionals who cannot step away from the office for long, snowbirds splitting time between Florida and home — telehealth makes therapy fit your life instead of the other way around.

Benefits of Online Counseling

Comfort of Home

Meet with your therapist from your own space — where you already feel safe and relaxed. Many clients find they open up more easily from home.

No Commute

Skip the drive, the parking, and the waiting room. Your session starts with a click — saving you time and reducing stress before you even begin.

Secure & Private

Sessions use a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. Your conversations are just as confidential as they would be in our office.

Anywhere in Florida

Convenient if you split time between Florida cities, work in a different part of the state, or just want to skip the Pine Ridge Road traffic during season. You must be physically located in Florida during sessions — that's a state licensing requirement.

Same Methods, Same Standards

Telehealth uses the same evidence-based approaches we use in person — CBT, EMDR, ACT, DBT, and more. Nothing is watered down. If you'd like to keep working with a specific therapist by video, ask when you book — most of our clinicians offer telehealth.

Insurance Accepted

Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare Part B, United Healthcare, and Care Partners through Lee Health all reimburse telehealth at the same rate as in-person sessions in Florida. We verify your benefits before your first appointment. Insurance details →

How Telehealth Works

1

Schedule

Contact us to book your appointment. Let us know you prefer a virtual session.

2

Get Your Link

Before your session, you will receive a secure video link via email. No software to download or accounts to create.

3

Join Your Session

Click the link at your appointment time. Find a quiet, private space and connect with your therapist face-to-face.

4

Continue Growing

Between sessions, apply what you have learned. If your therapist offers both formats, you can switch between telehealth and in-person visits week to week.

What You Need for a Telehealth Session

  • A device with a camera and microphone — laptop, tablet, or smartphone all work well
  • A stable internet connection — standard home Wi-Fi or cellular data is usually sufficient
  • A private, quiet space — somewhere you can speak openly without being overheard
  • You must be located in Florida during the session — this is a state licensing requirement

That is it. No special apps, no complicated setup. If you can make a video call, you can do telehealth therapy.

Who Online Therapy Is Great For

Telehealth works well for most people and most concerns. It is especially helpful if you:

The Cape Coral couple where both partners can't take an hour off work to drive across the bridge mid-week

The Naples parent fitting a session into school hours without arranging childcare

The Estero professional doing a session over a quiet lunch instead of leaving the office

The Lehigh Acres or East Lee County resident who would otherwise face a 45-minute drive each way

The post-surgery client who can't drive yet — or anyone with a mobility challenge that makes the trip hard

The snowbird in Naples or Estero who wants to keep the same therapist all winter without driving in (see the next section for what happens when you head north)

Telehealth for Snowbirds and Seasonal Residents

A real continuity-of-care problem comes up every winter in Naples, Estero, and Bonita Springs: you build a working relationship with a therapist from October through April, then head back to Michigan or Ohio for the summer and have to start over with someone new. The progress you made gets paused. The trust you built has to be rebuilt elsewhere.

While you're in Florida, telehealth lets you see us by video on the days when getting to the office isn't realistic — a rainy week, a busy stretch with visiting family, a conflict with a tennis or pickleball schedule. Same therapist you see in person. Same approach. Same insurance. You can alternate between in-person and telehealth based on your week.

The piece worth knowing up front: Florida law requires that you be physically located in Florida during a telehealth session. We can't continue sessions once you head north for the summer — that would mean practicing in a state where we aren't licensed. What we can do is pick up the work the moment you're back in Florida. Many of our snowbird clients find that having a consistent therapist for their six months down here — without starting from scratch every season — is its own form of continuity, even with the summer pause.

Is Online Therapy as Effective as In-Person?

Yes. Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy produces outcomes comparable to in-person sessions for most mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and relationship issues. The therapeutic relationship — the single biggest predictor of positive outcomes — develops just as effectively through video.

Many of our clients who started with telehealth during the pandemic have chosen to continue virtually even though our offices are open. They find that being in their own environment helps them feel more at ease, and the convenience means they are more likely to keep their appointments consistently — which is one of the most important factors in successful therapy.

That said, some clients prefer the structure of coming into the office, and some situations may benefit from in-person work. You are always welcome to switch between telehealth and in-person visits at our Naples, Estero, or Fort Myers offices — whatever works best for you on any given week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does insurance cover telehealth sessions?

Yes. Most major insurance plans cover telehealth therapy at the same rate as in-person sessions. We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicare, United Healthcare, and others. We will verify your specific benefits before your first appointment. Visit our insurance page for details.

Do I have to live near your offices to use telehealth?

No. You can be located anywhere in the state of Florida. Our therapists are licensed in Florida, which means they can provide telehealth services to any client who is physically in the state during the session. You do not need to live in Southwest Florida.

What if I have technical difficulties during a session?

It happens occasionally, and it is never a problem. If your connection drops, simply rejoin using the same link. If video is not working, your therapist can continue the session by phone. We build a few extra minutes into scheduling so a brief tech hiccup does not cut into your session time.

Can I switch between telehealth and in-person?

Often, yes. If your therapist offers both formats, you can alternate week to week based on your schedule. Most of our clinicians do offer both — just let us know when you book whether you'd prefer a virtual or in-office appointment, and we'll confirm what's available with your therapist.

Is telehealth appropriate for couples or family sessions?

Yes. Couples counseling and family sessions work well through telehealth. Both partners or family members can join from the same device or from separate locations — which can sometimes be helpful when emotions are running high.

Can EMDR therapy be done through telehealth?

Yes. Several of our therapists provide EMDR through telehealth using adapted techniques such as bilateral tapping and visual cues on screen. Research supports the effectiveness of virtual EMDR, and many clients find it works just as well as in-person sessions.

How is my privacy protected during telehealth?

We use a HIPAA-compliant video platform with end-to-end encryption. Your sessions are not recorded. We follow the same strict privacy and confidentiality standards as our in-office sessions. We also recommend that you use a private space with headphones for added privacy on your end.
